Annertech is cyber essentials certified plus

At Annertech, we have always maintained that security isn't just a technical requirement – it is a fundamental pillar of trust. Whether we are building a national library's digital archive or a council's essential service portal, the safety of our clients’ data is our top priority. That is why we are proud to announce that Annertech is now Cyber Essentials Plus certified.

Putting our systems to the test

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme designed to protect organisations against common online threats.

The Cyber Essentials Plus certification requires a rigorous, independent technical audit.

Alan Burke, our Director of Technology, spearheaded the project to ensure our internal infrastructure met these exacting standards.

“For us, security has never been a ‘tick-box’ exercise,” says Alan.

“Achieving Cyber Essentials Plus was about ensuring that the entire IT system that we work on is secure. It’s one thing to say you have secure processes, but having an independent expert poke and prod your systems to prove they are resilient is vital for true peace of mind.”

Why this matters for our clients

This certification provides an extra layer of assurance for our clients, but it is also a reflection of Annertech's wider philosophy on open-source safety:

“We’ve always believed that people shouldn't be forced to use systems they aren’t allowed to investigate. In the open-source world, we build something great, and then we invite validation to ensure its quality. This certification applies that same transparency to our own internal operations.”

The five pillars of protection

The audit confirmed that Annertech maintains robust protections across five key technical areas:

  1. Firewalls: Securing our internet connection to block unauthorised access.
  2. Secure configuration: Ensuring our devices and software use the most secure settings.
  3. User access control: Strictly managing and auditing who has access to data.
  4. Malware protection: Using advanced tools to detect and immobilise malicious software.
  5. Security update management: Ensuring all systems are patched against known vulnerabilities.

A commitment to continuous security

Cybersecurity is not a “once and done” task. Achieving Cyber Essentials Plus is part of our broader commitment to a “secure by design” philosophy, complementing our focus on high-performance, resilient digital platforms.

“The web is a constantly evolving medium, and the threats evolve with it,” Alan notes.

“By meeting these stringent standards, we ensure that our internal environment is as secure as the high-traffic, high-stakes websites we build for our clients.”

Moving forward together

This certification is just one way we demonstrate our dedication to delivering excellence in the public sector.

As the digital landscape shifts, we will continue to adapt and strengthen our defences to remain a trusted partner for your most critical digital projects.
