The Rise of Acquia in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for DXP

Time to read 4 minutes read

Following on from last week's Why you should consider an Open DXP, we will now have a more in-depth look at the position of our partner, Acquia, in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms (DXP) and how their offering has evolved to become one of the leaders in this space.

From Quadrant Challenger to Leader

A few years ago, most people were still talking about web content management systems (WCMS). Some of the players in this space had rudimentary personalisation capabilities but there were few, if any, offerings that could truly deliver a fully-rounded DXP.

However, with the growing emphasis on customer experience (CX), software vendors scrambled to augment their offerings to offer more to marketers, developers and ultimately the customer.

Acquia were no different. Two years ago, they did have some of the core technologies integral to a DXP – Cloud, WCMS, Personalisation, for example – but lacked other important facets that meant that they were firmly in the “Challenger” Quadrant for DXP.

Yet, during this time, Acquia was formulating its "open DXP" strategy and made some shrewd acquisitions to bolster its offering to the market.

By adding Mautic (marketing automation), Cohesion (low code builder) and AgilOne (customer data platform), Acquia has quickly become one of the Leaders in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for 2020 and the world’s leading proponent of API-driven, open DXP.

So, what does Acquia's DXP actually entail?

Acquia’s Open DXP coherently integrates Acquia’s platform to build, design, and run digital experiences (Drupal Cloud) with an end-to-end, data-driven marketing platform to create, personalise, and enhance customer journeys (Marketing Cloud).

Importantly, the new Marketing Cloud includes a Customer Data Platform (CDP) that gives marketers a 360-degree view of the customer. Based on real-time data integration and machine learning insights, this new addition to Acquia’s DXP ecosystem enables the delivery of highly personalised customer experiences.

As Jacob Groshek, of the respected market intelligence firm, IDC, puts it: "Acquia's launch of their new Open DXP centres around empowering developers and marketers to collaborate in driving agile digital transformation across an organization. Their new Open DXP is both a timely and comprehensive response to the needs of the market”.

Where does Annertech fit into the equation?

As proponents of open source technology, Annertech is fully on-board when it comes to developing an API-driven ecosystem that produces personalised experiences for the end user and we are currently working with a number of clients on their DXP strategy and implementation.

In terms of our relationship with Acquia, we have been working with them for almost ten years. We are their de facto implementation arm on a number of large digital transformation projects in Europe and actively work together to promote the benefits of open source technologies.

Next time, we will be having a look at harnessing the power of customer data and the benefits of a customer data platform (CPD) in relation to increasing profitability by driving customer retention, loyalty, and revenue. Why not swing by again!
